It's been two and a half years since I switched to "floor living".

I have a lowered desk, sleep on a thin futon - and have no back pain at all.

If you experience back pain, your too soft mattress could be the cause.

@fasnix I'm very interested in this and I'm eyeing a futon maker that offers three thicknesses of 100% cotton filled matresses - 6, 8 and 10cm. However, they only recommend the 10cm as an actual sleeping solution, while they hint at the other two measures as yoga/massage mats.

Do you have any suggestion on the matter? I sadly cannot try them out as I please because the shop is a few cities from me.

Edit: asked this here because I know zonli is foam, not pure cotton filling, and the two things are miles apart.

Well, first I configured a futon matress with 10cm height.
However, to me it felt too soft.
I sold it and configured a 6cm futon, with just six layers of cotton, like original Japanese futon were/are crafted.
For me it's perfect, however I don't know if it would suit your needs as well.

@fasnix yeah, it's hard to tell because I've been sleeping with a 10cm foam mattress on the floor and it definitely feels too soft, but I don't know how harder cotton would feel. I'm tempted to go for the 6cm, but the option I'm eyeing only uses two layers of cotton, so I guess they're woven at a thicker size.

Where are you located?
Do you use an online configurator to select which height/thickness you want to choose?

@fasnix I live in Italy, and I'm looking at a shop in the country that sells fixed thicknesses at various measures, all handmade.
