I know some people have there reasons to block or reject follow requests but in the end it's all about who your friends really are.
@the_coffee_lover True, but if you want to be "friends" without letting people know who you are (providing a bio), or thinking you can describe yourself solely through the medium of hashtags, then you have to accept that a lot of people will just say no from the start.
@the_coffee_lover It's why so many people have locked friend requests and explicitly put "no bio, no follow" on their own profile page. Personally I'm slightly more stringent - if all you've got there is a few quotes, or define yourself exclusively via the medium of what you do for a living, or are on "broadcast" only, not boosting or replying to other posts, then that's not the spirit of Fedi as far as I'm concerned, so it's a no.

@the_coffee_lover Oh, I wasn't speaking about you at all! You're a prolific booster and replier, which is as good a way to find out about what a person's like as a bio.
My own bio's a bit threadbare, tbh.

I like to engage with others and tbh that's the only way to really gauge the account if it's real or not.
I do see some accounts just strictly boost and no replies at all. Which makes me think that they are a bot or spam.

I often follow people on a whim, on the basis of one interesting post, or a meme that made me giggle, or an eccentric response to other people's chitchat. I'm pretty brutal with the mutes as well tbh. A reply guy gets an instant block, people who don't use alt-text are muted without further notice. I don't apologise for that - if you don't like it, mute me, block me, whatever. Idgaf π
