Iran strikes on Amazon data centers caused permanent loss of customer data
War damage to data centers exceeded what AWS services are designed to withstand.

@arstechnica well that's why you're supposed to have off-site backups and geo-redundancy...
Edit: It's not even that difficult. I've both for my own personal website...
@arstechnica Maybe they shouldnt've scraped the internet without permission for 'AI training', while also being tightass about people pirating their movies, music, and ebooks.
Absolute hypocrites.
No tears cried for Amazon here. Let them be required to compensate for their enterprise cloud customers lost data via the SLA agreement that they have.
@arstechnica Is this why I got a series of strange messages from AWS today complaining it couldn't bill me?
I figured it was your standard phish. Haven't touched them in years.
@arstechnica Dr evil would be having a fit if this attack was a result of blowback from a democratic admin but when it is his pedo daddy... silence and more boot licking.
“The damage to our infrastructure spanned multiple Availability Zones and exceeded what our regional and multi-AZ services are designed to withstand,”
Well, how 'bout that!
@arstechnica chaos and war are bad for business! Unless you're the author of the chaos or getting paid for the war
Clouds are a single point of failure, contrary to the marketing literature. Who knew? /s
you hear that folks? Shahed-136s are not expensive. if AWS can be damaged beyond repair there, it can be done *anywhere * 😈
@arstechnica absolutely wild that anything important companies had there wasn't replicated into other regions or with cold storage backups elsewhere.
@arstechnica
I think this is false. You are supposed to anticipate and store your assets in different regions.
It is the customer's fault 🤔
@arstechnica Amazon is actively supporting Trump's war, they made themselves a valid military target and didn't bother to prepare for the consequences.
It sucks to be the affected customers but this was foreseeable.
