Gramma Boebert continuing the cycle

Remember when Lauren Boebert accused members of the LGBTQIA+ community groomers?

Pepperidge Farm members

@flexghost
She was farmed by a man who became her first husband and who finished grooming her when she was still a kid.
He was arrested for waving his dick in girls' faces at a bowling alley in 2004.
Beat his kids.
This ENTIRE CHRISTIAN CULTURE IN AMERICA is based in sexual abuse, sexual violation, and sexual slavery. It is foundational to their belief system.

"Oh, not my church."
Yes.

God was a drunk uncle who raped young Mary, said he was a ghost, and made her skip-town. Amen.

@GGMcBG now replace “Christian” with any other religion and how is that acceptable? I don’t agree with you.

@flexghost
Why do I have to replace Meat Grinder with a Salad Spinner? They aren't the same prep tool.

Though I don't accept any religion. I am disgusted by them and I'm tired of granting grace to the anomalous exceptions. Especially when Christians are actively, vocally, killing this nation. I get to do feel that way.

Christianity is a weapon, first. Extricating what might be good, at this point, is like trying to separate the red and blue gel from the rest of the Aqua Fresh toothpaste.

@GGMcBG This is where I break with parts of the left. You can’t condemn prejudice and sweeping generalizations when they’re aimed at groups you care about, then use the exact same logic against groups you dislike.

If I took some of the comments being made here about Christians and simply swapped in a favored group, I’d probably catch a permaban

Have fun with that kind of selective bigotry, but it’s not my thing

@flexghost @GGMcBG Christianity is the reason I can't speak Cherokee like my grandmas, it's why lgtbq people suffer, why Black people were slaves, why little girls can be married off to grown men
Christianity is a problem and it sickens me to see people jump to defend it whenever people speak the truth
Break off however far you want, stop telling people to stop being mean to Christians cuz you think it's the same as them being mean to queers or brown people

@HappyCrow13 @GGMcBG I’m from Syria and I’m a gay woman. I’ve faced my fair share of religious and cultural bullshit, and I’m not even Christian.

You can condemn Christian institutions for colonialism, slavery, forced assimilation, persecution of LGBTQ people, or anything else without assigning collective guilt to Christians. It’s possible

That distinction is exactly what we demand when discussing other religions and groups. Historical grievances don’t suddenly make prejudice principled.

@flexghost @HappyCrow13 @GGMcBG I see your point, but when you have an organized group actively trying to force the rest of the country (in this case USA) to involuntarily follow their precepts is it unacceptable to refer to them as a group?

Granted, there are many Christian sects, and many of them (Unitarian Universalists) are anodyne, but the evangelical branch considers themselves the authoritative voice of Christianity and are intent on harming minorities, women, and LGBT.

@rrb @HappyCrow13 @GGMcBG Anyone can criticize an organized political movement trying to impose its beliefs through government. I do.

But notice how much narrower your argument just became. We went from “Christians” to a particular subset of American evangelicals engaged in particular political activity.

That distinction is my point

Name the movement. Name the institution. Name the policy. Name the people. I’ll criticize them too

Collective guilt for millions? Is that where we want to go?

@flexghost @rrb @HappyCrow13 @GGMcBG The distinction is important.

I have real hatred for the evil that is the Catholic Church, but I always make a clear distinction between the political entity that literally and directly protects pedophiles and the people who participate in the religion.

After all, I’m a United Statesian, but that doesn’t mean I support all the bullshit currently being done in our name, and I’d think someone ignorant if they lumped me in with those who support the current regime.

HappyCrow13
@HappyCrow13 @mastodon.social

@AnachronistJohn @rrb @flexghost @GGMcBG I don't make the distinction cuz if you're a part of it you support it.

You chose your religion not your birth country

@HappyCrow13 @rrb @flexghost @GGMcBG True, and good point.

I could leave the US, but that’d be a lot of work.

People are raised in specific religions, and they could choose to leave them, but religious programming is so deep that it’s not easy for a lot of people, even when they’re suffering abuse at the hands of their religion.

So yes, what you write is true, but of course it’s never quite so simple for many.

The moment I could I left my religion.

  • I was baptized when I didn't ask for it (baby🍼).
  • I was orally abused multiple times by my cousin who thought that it was in the name of whatever God he was loyal to.

He abused many boys in the street, was never convicted as a offender.

  • My right eye was broken by the other cousin, who also believed with pure conviction that his God was telling him to do SO. He kept screaming that at the top of his lungs.

Frayers were looking openly at boys with erections in their pants at boys school. Some boys were brought to the back and anally abused. The frayers raped about 10 to 20% of the boys.

I left that religion as a 12 year old child.

My eyesight and my right eye was restored of course, no thanks to the Roman Catholics, but thanks to the most skillful eye surgeon of that era.

It took a whole year before I could see again with both eyes. Because of that event I wear glasses

Fuck Roman Catholicism
