@donelias @danieruotakuboy Esto, la interferencia de los EE.UU. en las elecciones (muchas veces usando a la CIA) y unas mediocres oligarquías latifundistas son la constante de América Latina. 😒

@donelias If Gabriela did win in this matchup, the CIA would organize a coup to oust her.

@donelias 51% of the population DO NOT have the right to sterilize 49%, ever. This sort of shit is "three wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner" democracy.

At one hand, the biggest and longest propaganda machine the bourgeoisie has employed in order to besmirch the Workers' Party so much, people are willing to elect a mafioso in order to fight what they believe is corruption.

On the other hand, the Workers' Party worked hard in order to demobilize the working class, in order to preserve political stability so they could run elections and hold power. Then they enacted policies that pleased the same bourgeoisie now wants to kick Lula out and install a Trump's puppet in his place.

Also there's no fascism without popular support. The Bolsonaro Family plotted to kill Lula et al, but authoritarianism runs deep in Brazilian culture. If most people are convinced Lula is bad, then an assassination plot becomes acceptable. Brazil, during both colonial and imperial periods, was the biggest destination of enslaved human beings in human history. There's no way the society that results from such history is a Garden of Eden. There's plantation and slavery to this day. Natives face pogroms and police mass kills its own poorer population. Don't let PR fool you, this place is evil.

@CrisOliveira thank you for the explanation. I understood the first time the fascist was elected, but I could not grasp why he even would be a competitor the second time around.

Yeah, it's even more bewildering if you consider this time it's his son, who has not 1/10 of the father's charisma and influence (even if charisma is a bit overrated, since Jair Bolsonaro is a disgusting imbecile). I mean, Flávio's platform is basically being Jair's son and that's it.

Hitlerio won with an anti-corruption platform. Voters are so passionate about anti-corruption, they vote in a corrupt if he vows to fight corruption. He also vows to end crime -- by killing everybody. He will destroy drug cartels by arming the biggest one into a nation-wide militia.

@donelias "Despite falling inequality ‌and unemployment, Lula has struggled to win over voters grappling with high living costs, heavy household debt and the threat of crime and more pervasive gang activity."

Yeah, vote for the right, they'll always prioritise the poor and downtrodden. It's right there in the definition of "right wing politics".

@xenotar @donelias It's possible, it just came from this Reuters article. I'm curious about why people were voting for Bolsonaro.

@ghouston@mamot.fr @donelias@mastodon.cr @ghouston@mamot.fr @donelias@mastodon.cr That is a lie; I live in Brazil. Working-class people vote for Bolsonarism because Neo-Pentecostal pastors have been campaigning ceaselessly since 2018, because the business sector wants a liberal who will sell off national assets, because Big Tech also wants a liberal subservient to their interests, and—finally—because Trump and Netanyahu want it. This is no secret; it has been reported, e.g. in the Washington Post, Guardian, the New York Times, and Le Monde diplomatique,.
This lie by Reuters is shameful.

@donelias the fight gets incredibly tiresome when 40%+ of the population just yearns for fascism
