It's been two and a half years since I switched to "floor living".
I have a lowered desk, sleep on a thin futon - and have no back pain at all.
If you experience back pain, your too soft mattress could be the cause.

@fasnix Ever after gifting my daughter my perfect GrĂ¼ne Erde-futon and switching to our current Emma-setup, I am dealing with lower back and neck pains. These matrasses are way too soft and look absurdly large in our bedframe. I've been meaning to get another futon again, so this is motivational. :D
