Happy to see that FreeBSD is planning on including the desktop installer in the 15.2 release.
@cmccullough I have been paying attention to FreeBSD and their drive to improve their installer for quite a while. Particularly with integrating DE/WM installation in the process.
Much like Linux does already, but since FreeBSD develops everything as a harmonious unit instead of random pieces duct-taped to the Linux Kernel (mostly joking).
I have been excited to see if they can modernize the FreeBSD installer and hardware support in a satisfying way.
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@sunny.garden I've really been loving the learning experience, getting back into the BSDs. It's been a while. And I agree with your description of the way it's developed. I've heard of others comparing to the way pieces are just "duct-taped" to the Linux kernel.
@cmccullough I am glad you had hardware that played nicely with BSD...I have been watching vicariously through YouTubers and other people having fun getting through the installer process. Some have even been getting fish shell up and running on the BSDs and it makes me jelly! Especially when they set-up Linux emulation.
Not to knock Linux or anything, it is still excellent for how they take all these pieces that aren't all developed in-house and bring it together into a distro (which varies wildly between the provider). Linux distros gave me freedom to explore open source without Microslop being able to track my every movement on "their" computer rather than my computer. It still does seem odd that the Linux Kernel hardware compatibility hasn't been secured and harnessed by the BSDs yet.
I think my desire stems from the both the harmonious development style of the BSDs but also a deep curiosity to challenge my brain to learn yet something else. As the Arch-Based distro I use, btw is Garuda Linux. It's not challenging anymore...Kinda boring even. I am wired to seek novelty.
