the tech industry fervor over Omarchy is so fucking confusing to me that i'm honestly starting to wonder if it's just money laundering. over TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS for a fascist's dotfiles and bash scripts is patently insane
the fact that this shit now has an entire foundation, conference, corporate sponsorships, and merch proves that the tech industry is just a never-ending series of grifts in a trench coat

@davidcelis Agreed, it’s depressing to witness. Just very very wealthy people throwing their money around congratulating each other over essentially nothing.
@davidcelis it does feel as if some people with bad politics (but a taste for free stuff) found issue with the reality that desktop Linux was a social warrior project, and are taking panicked corrective steps to "fix" it.
@MaddieM4 @davidcelis
I wonder what Linus himself would think about the attribution "social warrior project"...
@davidcelis it’s insane and never saw it coming.
I feel at the beginning everyone was making fun of how useless it was and suddenly I’m swamped with “coder influencers” saying it’s the second coming of christ
@oscb @davidcelis it’s so obviously astroturfed too, suddenly every dev influencer uses it and thinks it’s “reinventing personal computers” or some shit like this
@davidcelis a lot of people were waiting for an excuse to funnel money into fascism in open source, and DHH created an institution for this purpose
i got the boilerplate response from 1Password. here's my follow-up
and yes, i know i said "simply" thrice. please do not @ me or my family during these trying times.
even the mainstream tech media has started to pick this up https://www.theverge.com/tech/988536/1password-dhh-linux-controversy
Based on the responses from 1Password's CEO and cofounder, they're not likely to change course, so I've cancelled my account.
If you still have time left on your billing cycle to find an alternative and export your data, there's no reason to wait to cancel; speak with your dollars.
@davidcelis this has been the *very first* mention I have seen of DHH's descent into full blown extremism from the main stream media. Finally!
@davidcelis the blatant bullshit excuse “we want to support opensource communities” needs to be called out.
Why not donate to any other projects? Why now, after so many years of just dunking on them?
