I want to publicly thank @dch
The FreeBSD port of littleFedi was already ready at release time, and it’s really well done.
One of the peculiarities of littleFedi is that it was developed and tested first on the BSDs, then on illumos, and only later on Linux.
The first public instance, my own @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it account, runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with NetBSD.
I don’t think many social platforms have started out on NetBSD in recent years.

The main implementation of the #fediverse should run smoothly on any #POSIX OS. #FreeBSD , #NetBSD and #OpenBSD are literally the "definition" of POSIX. Why they should not run on them? I'm genuinely puzzled! Can anyone enlighten me, please?

@paoloredaelli @dch @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it because modern software stack is just a mess and full of Linuxisms that it can easily become impossible to compile outside Linux. Mastodon itself, a software I like, is becoming increasingly difficult to build on some specific platforms like illumos or OpenBSD.
I know, it sounds strange. But the world doesn't care about Posix anymore. "Linux" is the keyword. Not Posix.
@stefano@bsd.cafe
That's strange, "building" a program written in interpreted languages such as #Javascript and #Ruby that are usually very portable. I guessed tgat the problem is #Nodejs, but it seems I'm wrong.
I'm becoming old 😭😱
