Now this instance is running on a Raspberry Pi A+ (1 core @ 700 MHz, 256MB RAM), so even less than the Raspberry Pi Zero W it was running on before.

On NetBSD, of course!

Edit: it suffers a bit. I don’t know if it’s for the lower ram or lower speed sd card or the external WiFi adapter, but it’s slower than the Zero W. Still usable, but not optimal. I’ll try with the original B and will see if / how different it is.

well, for personal experience, you can power one ODROID N2 using a little surface of second-hand solar panels. This device Stefano is using fits balcon solar panels, just using a decent power bank. .

@stefano Maybe 256 MB is pushing it a bit far.

@miiko I'm trying to understand if the problem is that 256MB is too low for my database (so not much space for caching) or the SD card is too slow.
If I force the Zero W to 700 mhz, it performs much better than the A+, so it's probably something else than the CPU.

For what it is worth, most of the desagrements/problems I had with raspberrys were usually coming from the SD card / io , so that'd be my first call.
I use USB keys or external disks, usually old HD repurposed in a plastic casing.
