I like both versions of this scene from the creek out back, but the crop of a photo can really change the feel of a scene, yeah? I typically like wider crops more, but square crops tend to work better for small screens because you don't have to ask your audience to rotate orientation for proper viewing 😅

In May, I bought an old (from 2008) digital camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, with an integrated Leica lens) that offers different formats via a physical switch (3:2, 4:3, 16:9) and 1:1 via a software setting, as well as different color and black and white settings natively.

I tend to prefer square photos as well, however it depends on the motive, as some work better in 16;9.
I rarely shoot in the other formats.

It's bringing back fun in taking photographs 😄

I capture and process all my photos with my Samsung Galaxy S23 because I haven't wanted to carry more gear on my runs and hikes, but maybe someday I'll get myself a proper camera and macro + telephoto lenses. I'm always disappointed by the results when I try taking those kinds of photos with my phone.

That's a special feature of the Lumix: its lens can do macros from only 1cm distance to an object -fascinating how sharp the images get!

I can understand that it's impractical to carry a camera while running.
However, yes, buy one for other foto-tours :)
