I spent several hours this morning trying to make my website look and feel somewhat close to something that I can be happy with. I'm not thrilled with the results, but it's good enough to stop for the day.

I hate working with WordPress πŸ˜’

I can't wait to try my hand at running my own #littleFedi instance instead! (Praying to the deer gods that I can figure out how to do that πŸ™)

Is there a reason you (have to) use WordPress?

@fasnix WordPress doesn't require me to host or install anything. I'm adept with Markdown and I have some HTML knowledge, but that's about as far as my programming skills go. Before littleFedi, I hadn't found any software that really motivated me to try hosting myself.

I love littleFedi. It's like what I would have designed if I wrote code. Exactly the kind of short-form dynamic social media and long-form static blogging that I've cobbled together with various Fedi clients and WordPress, in one place. The only thing that could possibly make littleFedi better is if I could install it like I would an app on my phone: download, click install, and I'm good to start setting up my instance for use just like that.

As it is, I know it's not going to be that straightforward. I may spend many more hours figuring out how to install and run and maintain my own instance.

#littleFedi seems worth that trouble to me in a way that no other Fedi/blog software has up to now.

You can start looking at the doc for the install. I did so and forwarded my (many) comments to Stefano. I'm sure having more people looking at it would be benefial for everybody. For him, because he will adress the gaps, but also for you (and the rest of the world) because you'll be better prepared when you actually start installing.
it's here: https://littlefedi.org/docs.html

@francois thanks! I had been looking, and it's a bit overwhelming, but I'm hoping that it'll make more sense to me when I get my hands on the thing, you know? My original post here was an expression of excitement for the upcoming release of the code. Can't wait to start poking around, figuring it out, getting my instance up and running. Excited! A bit anxious about the technical bits, yeah, but excited.

Don't worry, I read some sentences twice too (even thrice !) 😜

And I did send a bunch of question to Stefano who just said they would be answered once the code was available πŸ™„.

But while looking at it to make sure I had the correct url to send you, it slowly started to make a bit more sense, so I guess if we read it enough times....😝
