tap. tap. is this thing on?

@syscall it's a timeline that will show the local timeline and the timelines of some "friend" instances. The list of the friend instances can be set by the instance admin.

@epn4littlefedi overkill, for sure, but you can run other services on it

I'm so looking forward to the first release of #littlefedi. An Orange Pi 4 Pro has come into my possession which has 4gb RAM LPDDR5 and a pretty handy CPU. Overkill and probably much more than I require for running a small instance with just 5 users but it will allow for significant future expansion.

@xenotar @syscall fyi something similar happened in France. I don't remember the exact details, but the fact that somebody had signal on his/her phone was taken as a sign (s)he was in a gang or something.

Fair enough.
That said it's not because bullying has been the name of the game so far that they can't
Forget it.
You're right. Leopards don't lose their spots

@francois @stefano May be, may be not. The Trump administration has not demonstrated this level of competence so far; on the contrary, it knows only how to use absolute brute force, whether in the form of war or through tariffs and sanctions.

@syscall If things continue in this stupid direction, the Trump administration will classify the use of GnuPG as a terrorist act. This sanction seems to clearly indicate that the NSA is struggling to crack the encryption used by this Italian organization (which I had never heard of before). My support for it stems from the sheer absurdity of these sanctions and the EFF's stance on the matter. If I understood Stefano's comment correctly, the organization has a reputation in Italy for supporting Italian organized crime. But, I repeat: theoretically, the Mafia has email options just as secure as this one, and they likely use all of them simultaneously.

@stefano There is (theoretically) no way to know who uses Proton or Tuta for legitimate purposes, for crime, or for "terrorism." I imagine "terrorists" will migrate to other systems—if they haven't already been there for years. How did the NSA single out one system from the others? Does it have access to Proton and Tuta but not the other one?
I’m really skeptical about the ones that weren't singled out.

littleFedi doesn't need a Raspberry PI to run

It can run on a Raspberry PI - and this is totally different.

@xenotar I was surprised, to be honest. I thought they were going to label it as "mafiosi".

@SteveBellovin@infosec.exchange This is becoming more ridiculous by the day, and I don't see an end in the near future.

An Italian secure email system was labeled as terrorist and sanctioned by the US.
What should I think about other secure email systems (Proton, Tuta, etc.) that were not labeled as terrorist or sanctioned by the US?
