Local timeline
@shom there's also a plan to improve the bubble timeline, to help people to discover more people without leaving their own instance
@eliastorres thanks:
1) it will work when it'll be available as it already points to a closed repo 😉
2) we're thinking about it
3) nice!
4) good!
5) it's a compromise...but we're evaluating new options
thank you!
More feedback for @stefano now in a Local post, so maybe other users in the same instance see something similar or want to add something:
- "littlefedi" link at the bottom goes to a non existent page
- Going a to timeline shows the compose box first (at least in mobile web) it looks confusing.
- The web interface is fastz crazy fast. I love it.
- The visual editor (work in progress) is very comfortable to use.
- I suspect is not an easy task, but media previews and on browser edition options like cropping, would help a lot too.
@ThePianomanJu@chaos.social
Hm, what about "Lingwa de Planeta"?
Isn't there a certain structure and repeating words recognizable as well?
@stefano
Thanks for all the great work you and your team do with littleFedi - much appreciated, really! <3
@ryan@social.miyaku.media You're right, and I'm sorry. The comparison was a bad one and the tone was sharper than you deserved. Your question isn't the same thing, and it isn't unreasonable to ask.
The answer, as plainly as I can put it: I don't use LLMs to write this code, and as far as I know none of the others working on it do either. I'm not going to claim more certainty than I have about other people's keyboards, but that's my understanding and nobody has told me otherwise. The post is mine - English isn't my first language, so I used ordinary tools to check parts of it.
What got to me wasn't you. It's that after all these years we've reached a point where a new project is assumed to be AI-generated or AI-assisted until it says otherwise. I don't think that assumption is wrong, exactly. It's just a sad place to have arrived at, and it landed on a day when I was mostly happy about having something to show.
@ryan@social.miyaku.media As far as I know, the team behind the project hasn't used LLM assistance.
I didn't use an LLM to write that post. I did use ordinary software tools, including DeepL, to check parts of my English, because English is not my native language.
And, frankly, I don't think I should have to disclose my blood type every time I publish something just to prove that a human was involved.
I've been writing software and publishing things online for around thirty years, long before LLMs existed, and I find this growing assumption that everything must be AI-generated unless explicitly stated otherwise rather depressing.
I'm perfectly happy to answer the question. What makes me uncomfortable is the idea that not proactively listing every tool I may or may not have used somehow amounts to a lack of transparency.
At some point, humans are going to get tired of constantly having to prove they’re human. And then perhaps only the AIs will be left publishing anything.
I have been running my own GoToSocial instance for a couple years and I totally forgot the joy of the Local Timeline. I was on Fosstodon in the early days when you got to know people via the local timeline and then it got too big and slowly that sense of community fades.
This feels like one of those early days of meeting new and interesting friends. Hi Local Timeline folks! I hope for many little littleFedis.
@fiend_unpleasant this is some good testing and feedback writing, love it.
Might I suggest trying to turn this excellent post into blog in the edit menu?
@stefano this is totally an user error feedback!
In Notifications I clicked the "clear all" when in my mind I was trying to "mark all as read". I wonder if it's reasonable to have both those options?
I am playing with Visual Editor
The first time I ever used an editor like this was in Wordpress approximately 100 years ago.
I was a thinner man back then, less grey, in less pain.
I could often be hear proclaiming:
Who the fuck are you? Why have you been following me around? Is that a camera!? Are you some kind of cop!!?
In a panic I would run :
sudo rm -rf /
in an attempt to destroy all of the evidence of the crimes I had not committed.
This thing appears to be working well and I smell I really appreciate the effort that goes into something like this.
I am not much of a programmer. I studied it once at University and failed out. You can see just how bad it really is on Codeberg.
I am however really good at:
- Breaking things
- trying to do weird stuff
- documenting what I did
- explaining what I thought would happen
- explaining what actually happened
This is important because:
- not every system is the same and software can behave unexpectedly on someone else's computer
- "idk this shit dont work" is a shitty bug
^ That horizontal rules!
The only thing that was slightly confusing was knowing when to turn the buttons off. I did have to edit the numbered and bulleted lists once because I toggled the button off too early and it unlisted the last item. Not a bug, every visual editor handles that one differently.
