@marinaaisa@hachyderm.io I don't doubt it. It looks amazing there.

@francois yes, you can! I've always been delighted by snac's post feature, so we replicated it here. The littleFedi binary ships a post subcommand that publishes toots straight from the shell - no OAuth token needed, but it does require local access to the instance (config file + database).

printf 'Hello\n' | ./littlefedi --config littlefedi.toml post
./littlefedi --config littlefedi.toml post --username alice post.md

Content comes from stdin (or -) or a file.

What it supports: visibility (public, unlisted, private, direct, local, local_unlisted), --markdown, --content-warning/--cw, --sensitive, --language, --reply-to, --quote, repeatable --media (existing attachment IDs), and blog flags (--blog, --blog-slug).

Author selection: --username optional in single-user instances; otherwise resolved from config or required when several local users exist.

On success it prints the status URL. It federates immediately and waits for the delivery queue before exiting

Limits: it creates statuses only. No boost/favourite/edit/delete commands, and media must already exist on the instance (no direct file upload via this subcommand).

So: single-way tooting from the terminal works out of the box; a full shell client for likes/reposts/edits is not there.

ho, and whatever you did to the scrolling, it works, thanks. It is no longer bouncing all over the place.
Since I'm at the keyboard, I was wondering:
my understanding is that you have one executable and a config file.
I imagine that it also takes command-line parameters.
My question is:
can you use that executable to also post toots ? (or whatever it is called this week )

The reason I'm asking is because at the moment I have various shell scripts posting things using madonctl.
madonctl works well, but is quite old, which means that there are several newer API options which are missing.
I would love to have a command-line tool that enables me to use the full extend of the API (self-destructing posts springs to mind).

BSDun β€” FreeBSD ELF support for the Linux kernel

bsdun is a Linux kernel module that teaches the kernel to recognise and load
FreeBSD ELF executables, with the emulated FreeBSD userland rooted at
/compat/freebsd. It is the mirror image of FreeBSD's Linuxulator (which runs
Linux binaries on FreeBSD): here we run FreeBSD binaries on Linux.

Excerpt from:
Β»How are we preparing for the long web?Β«

β€žThe digital dark ages has been circulating among archivists and information scientists since the late 1990s. In 2018, a data preservation director at Google noted that we may end up knowing less about the early 21st century than we do about the early 20th, as early 20th century records were made on paper, while so much of what we create now is born digital and dies digital, without ever becoming physical.

All of this writing. All of these photographs. All of these communities. Less legible to a historian in 2125 than a handwritten letter from 1925.β€œ

Reading "Careless People" by Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynn Williams. Even though its stuff we've known about and/or suspected for a long time, it's still a mind blowing indictment of the abuse of power by big tech. And of course, they are all at it

What is Β»permacomputingΒ«?

β€žPermacomputing is both a concept and a community of practice oriented around issues of resilience and regenerativity in computer and network technology inspired by permaculture.

There are huge environmental and societal issues in today's computing, and permacomputing specifically wants to challenge them in the same way as permaculture has challenged industrial agriculture. With that said, permacomputing is an anti-capitalist political project. It is driven by several strands of anarchism, decoloniality, intersectional feminism, post-marxism, degrowth, ecologism.

Permacomputing is also a utopian ideal that needs a lot of rethinking, rebuilding and technical design work to put in practice. This is why a lot of material on this wiki is highly technical.

Most importantly, there is no permacomputing kit to buy. See permacomputing as invitation to collectively and radically rethink computational culture. It is not a tech solution searching for a problem. You are free to start your own initiative and use the term permacomputing, however please make sure you understand the purpose and ethos of this project.β€œ

Hm, interesting concept!
