Just a little reminder on littleFedi's efficiency
The instance https://rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it - with my user @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it - has been running for over a month on a Raspberry Pi Zero W powered by NetBSD.
Under normal operation, it uses 58 MB of RAM, including caches. And it shows no signs of slowness!

If anyone is interested, there is also Nano Pi NEO which is very cheap. It runs both FreeBSD and Linux. In general Allwinner H3 is both cheap and very power efficient. You could even easily power it using only solar!
There is also #LibreComputer #Tritium with H3 or H5. They offer 1GB RAM instead of 512MB.

I personaly think that’s what Mastodon should’ve been (I had to take down my self-hosted instance because I would have had to upgrade my VPS plan just to continue using it)
When LittleFedi will be release, it will be the start of a LOT of selfhosting instances for sure! (and the blogging hability is a striking features)

@stefano @stefano No slowness! That's awesome. I have a few numbers of comparison for you. I do something a bit similar, but not for as cheaply. I think it's awesome you got it working in a *BSD. This will bring more resiliency to the ecosystem. Those efforts to economize the cost are appreciated! Please keep up the great work!
For the sake of comparison, I have a single-user #GotoSocial server behind a "Super Owl Reverse Proxy":

This lets me run the latest GotoSocial within my LAN, on a Raspberry Pi 5, with 2GB of RAM. It idles at 915MB RAM, 210MB of swap is lackadaisically used. swap is very quiet with "vmstat 1". This is running a Raspberry Pi desktop, with the secure VNC server running. So I could save some RAM there if I wanted - using SSH only, no VNC. I turn VNC on sheerly because I can - easy to toggle in raspi-config. The RAM goes down to 670MB with no desktop, no VNC. So one of those 1GB of RAM Pis would do (and I suggest a swap space, would be very low activity), if done "headless".
I use stock Raspberry Pi OS, based on #Debian 13. I have a 500GB NVME, and is about 60% full. It reports 850MB/sec with an "hdparm -t". It is connected with GbE to a Gigabit switch. I get a rock-steady 930MB/sec with iperf3. This pi never breaks a sweat with my 1 GotoSocial user - I could run other services as well, as long as the RAM held. The load average sits at zero pretty much, all day long. The temp stays 48 deg C, in a nice, metal Argon Neo case, with the NVMe tray accessory.
This Pi 5 is overkill for a single-instance GotoSocial server, but the all-in one, great metal case makes the cost worth it to me - feels like a finished product, and doesn't scare normies when I show it to them.
