@simona@mastodon.design it's a Fediverse software we're implementing and will be easy to host. I think there will also be some public instances so...yes, totally suitable for non techies!

@stefano I might continue using the markdown tab because old habits die hard, but the "preview" tab is brilliant considering I'm affected with what is called around here wurstfinger ( @pepdmin if you have a translation... 😃 )

@francois @stefano hahaha that'd be sausage fingers or fat fingers. But trust me - nearly everyone I know has them. Still we all use "smart" devices.

I think it’s a good idea to have this feature. It’s not for everyone, and that’s fine. What might be really helpful for some users would be if you can switch the view while you are editing to display: markup, rendered, or both.

Personally I like markup languages better than WYSIWYG. Markdown is not my favorite markup language. I think there are better markup languages. However I guess switching to a different markup language would be challenging.

But regardless of which markup language is being used I would like to see the rendering before I post as it’s so easy to make a mistake and post something that renders totally different from what you intended.

@kasperd@westergaard.social yes, you can switch from one view to another, or just continue with plain markdown.
I know there are other markup languages, but markdown is more or less the standard in the fediverse, so that's why we decided to support it.

@stefano I said most of this in our DM but wanted to share some enthusiasm publicly 💛

Something to consider: as the options for posts grow (which is truly wonderful) I wonder if it makes sense for all the formatting and post meta options to be revealed after the user clicks on the text box. It is taking up a lot or visual space and might look intimidating to first time users when they see that at the top of their home feed before seeing any posts.

woahhhh!! Visual editor would be clutch for non technical people. On mobile and already loving the [ ] full screen editor.

I love that you can toggle back and forth from Markdown and PREVIEW is the real killer feature. I'm buzzing with excitement (only some of that is the coffee I just has 😂)!
