@himysyed Hey @himysyed @fasnix I'd be happy to help. There's a bit of stuff to know for me to give you the best / easiest way to get things going.

  • What VPS do you use?
  • Do you have other services on the VPS?
  • Do you have a reverse proxy like caddy/nginx?
  • Do you have to use a web front end to setup anything on the subdomain besides an IP for the DNS entry (like certificates)?

Answer as many of these as you can and we can get it figured out from there. I'd be happy to do a remote / chat session as well. But at the end of it I request both of you write a post (and blog!) about your experience so it can help others coming from your perspective. Let me know!

However, I still prefer to learn Esperanto / Dunianto, Lingwa de Planeta, Mini Linga ... ;)

Would love to become fluent in each of them, however ... /o\

Have youever heard of "Viossa - the greatest language mixing experiment in the world"?

What is Viossa?

In 2014 some people joined a Skype call and spoke to each other.
None of them understood anybody else’s language.
They used hand gestures and pictures to communicate.
Their words kept merging until pictures weren’t necessary.
The resulting language was called Viossa.

(they spoke russian, albanian, japanese, greek, finnish, norwegian, and swiss german, among others)

the rules of viossa
● no translation or translation hints
○ “does ... mean ...?” - ❌ not allowed
○ “what does ... mean?” - ❌ not allowed
○ “how do I say ...?” - ❌ not allowed
○ drawing pictures - ✅ allowed!
○ using hand gestures - ✅ allowed!
○writing emojis - ✅ allowed!

● if it’s understood, it’s viossa
○ spelling doesn’t really matter
○ grammar doesn’t really matter
○ pronunciation doesn’t really matter

“idiolect – the dialect of an individual; their differing grammatical, vocabulary, and spelling methods”

Learning viossa is radically different:
lots of people learn languages through dictionaries and grammar packets. in viossa, we ...
● draw pictures and emojis
● use fill-in-the-blanks and dialogue
● ignore grammar whenever we can
● accept that we might not know everything

Acquiring vocabulary:
if you’re not sure what vocab you need, try...
● writing about your day
● describing a situation around you
● writing school assignments
● talking about a book

Do all these things in viossa and try to be aware of what words you don’t know

More learning resources:
after this presentation, keep learning at ...
● the viossa discord server, https://discord.gg/AWD8W9UgvV
● the viossa-only encyclopedia, https://vikoli.org
● the podcast “Davi hanu!”, available anywhere you get podcasts
● a Telegram channel, https://t.me/joinchat/UtA9oRzOTAbcz_6oqUYl2w
● this slideshow’s companion website, https://v8.zsnout.com/vjosali

(cited from their PDF file)

It sounds so fun to me!

However, I don't use discord or telegram.
I wish, they'd use something like an open discourse forum or similar :-/

I have a domain, with a subdomain for a fedi-instance.

I would love to get my own littlefedi server on it.

I have absolutely no clue about how to get it installed on the subdomain.

In theory, I can connect to it via SSH.
I'm just too ... dumb to be able to get it done.

Anyone here willing to assist or do it for me? beggingeyes

Thank you, @dch@bsd.network

One of the peculiarities of littleFedi is that it was developed and tested first on the BSDs, then on illumos, and only later on Linux.

The first public instance, my own @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it account, runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with NetBSD.

I don’t think many social platforms have started out on NetBSD in recent years.

I want to publicly thank @dch
The FreeBSD port of littleFedi was already ready at release time, and it’s really well done.

During the weekend, I will make this my main account.

In preparation, I will now start to publish and boost more and more in German beside English posts.

Of course, I will go on publishing and boosting English content as well.

I hope that my English speaking followers still will follow me here :)
Otherwise I'd understand if you'd prefer to leave.

"Littlefedi is vibe coded, isn't it?!"

And I answer confidently: "No, it isn't!"

@sfscon@mastodon.social welcome, and looking forward for an sfscon.it server ! :)

@ltning@pleroma.anduin.net @littlefedi_official@littleone.littlefedi.social @stefano@bsd.cafe thank you for the bug report. It should be working, so there's definitely something wrong there. I'll test it in an Alix board (NetBSD, i386). Its 256MB ram should be enough.

For the 486... I'm still trying to figure out how it could be done.
