Will we get a preview for youtube (and invidious)-links?

#littleFedinauts have y'all found any difficulty following / being followed by accounts not on Mastodon? Group accounts? Accounts set to "approve followers"?

I seem to have a problem following BookWyrm accounts and some accounts set to "approve followers." My request to follow my BookWyrm alt just doesn't appear on BookWyrm at all, and my request to follow music@fedigroups.social has been stuck in pending status for a few days now. #littleFedi doesn't have the ability to cancel a pending follow request, so I can't cancel and try again…

A low-angle view of moss-covered trees in the Hoh Rainforest. Thick green moss coats the leaning trunk and arching branches of a bigleaf maple, with tall evergreens and patches of blue sky behind.

Let's test a near-future scheduled post from #littleFedi with this photo of a magnificently moss-laden Acer macrophyllum I came across on a short walk through the Hoh Rainforest to the banks of the Hoh River.

Would be interested in your opinion about @aral@mastodon.ar.al 's take in using plain IP addresses instead of domains, via "web numbers"?

For the first time, littleFedi will be shown publicly

And I have to say, this makes me very happy. :)

A pre-release build will be running on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W at Berlin FediDay, where people will be able to see it, try it, play with it, and probably abuse it a little too.

Unfortunately I won't be there in person, because I'll be at EuroBSDCon that same weekend.

But really, what better place than FediDay for the first public appearance of littleFedi?

A huge thanks to @vortex@tldr.nettime.org - Adam - for taking this on, building the demo, testing it independently, and agreeing to respect the temporary source embargo while we complete the last checks before the public release.

I'm especially curious to see how littleFedi behaves once it's in the hands of people who didn't build it.

This is exactly the kind of test I was hoping for.

@pluvialgeist found the issue! You scheduled it on 4th Sep, but the housekeeping thought it was an orphaned media file, so deleted it. When the job triggered, it couldn't find the media and the post failed. I'm fixing it now.

@pluvialgeist I see a "failed" scheduled post, I guess it's this one. I've just tried to schedule a post in 5 minutes from now, let's see what will happen.

Any other #littleFedinauts have any trouble with scheduled posts? This one was supposed to fire yesterday evening but didn't. Just rescheduled to later this morning to see if it'll fire after a reschedule.

Grateful for the Static Blog page ability which LittleFedi includes as an option for Instance Admins to offer their members :

https://littlefedi.org/blogs.html#enable

Borrowing / Extending that ability just a bit brings me to my Feature Request for LittleFedi.

Akin to how LittleFedi can allow Static Blog pages to be generated from regular posts,

And then appear in its own namespace, using mine as an example :

https://littleone.littlefedi.social/@himysyed/blog

My request is to likewise offer the ability for Instance Admins to allow optional Static "Photoblog" Page for members

ergo :

https://littleone.littlefedi.social/@himysyed/photoblog

This is distinct from the "media" button linked from LittleFedi profile pages, as that is a catch-all visual listing.

https://littlefedi.org/blogs.html#contents

On my profile page currently we can see the "Visit blog" button.

My Feature Request includes asking for a "Visit photoblog" button to appear on one's profile, using the same logic as was used in the Static Blog option.

LittleFedi "Photoblog" themes are something that can be created and uploaded via the existing CSS ability, and that would fall upon us, the LittleFedi users, to create and share.

https://littlefedi.org/blogs.html#appearance

I'll stop here, because my next feature suggestion might build upon this, if it's reasonable.

...oh right, the above photograph, was something I wanted to remember, because seeing someone changing a car tire nowadays is unusual, at least to me. Nothing special about this scene. It's a photo of a moment from my Friday afternoon.

And thus something I wanted to "Photoblog".

So we can quote a post found later on within an existing thread,

And then as a new top-level, first in a new potential thread, post,

Again we see the "[_] Blog post" option appear in the post editor.

So now I can visually begin a new thread, or have it remain as a single post which now also can appear on my LittleFedi Static Blog page.

Very nice.

HiMY SYeD - littleFedi @himysyed

@himysyed And in conclusion, this is my third and final post capping my first LittleFedi Thread.

My intention was to create a thread,

Then circle back to the First Post in this thread,

Edit that first post and checkmark the "[_] Blog post" radio box,

So it would appear in my LittleFedi Static Blog page :

https://littleone.littlefedi.social/@himysyed/blog

As per https://littlefedi.org/blogs.html

Only the first post atop / beginning of a Thread can also appear on the Static Blog.

Any subsequent "replies", even if it is from myself, cannot become Static Blog Post.

All right, let's see what happens....

In NewPipe (Smartphone) it sometimes states that the video wouldn't play as it wants to make sure the app isn't a bot.

Funnily enough, the solution is to switch from WIFI to Mobile Data, then the video will load.
Before playing, I switch back to WIFI to reduce data use via mobile ;)

Smartphone runs with GrapheneOS.

In Freetube (Desktop) it sometimes states that Youtube blocked my domain.
My workaroun is to open the video in the smartphone app.
Most of the time it will play without problems.

I'm not downloading any videos to watch them offline.

Do you use the original youtube website/app?

I haven't done so in years, I watch all youtube videos, without ads, without algorithmic recommendations via Invidious, FreeTube (Desktop) and NewPipe (Smartphone).
